Shanté Burke-Hayer’s legal journey began in 2006 as a Youth Tobacco Prevention Advocate, where she researched the laws surrounding tobacco use and advocated for restaurants to become smoke free. In 2010, she became an intern and law clerk for a criminal law firm in Charlotte, NC. During this time she learned all about criminal procedure and how to succeed as an aspiring criminal defense attorney. From 2012-2014, Shanté gained experience in juvenile law when she became a volunteer Guardian Ad Litem and represented the voice of abused, neglected, and dependent children. Shanté continued to gain experience by interning with a family and juvenile law office in Charlotte and Concord, NC. She worked as a student attorney at the Family Advocacy Clinic representing parents attempting to regain custody of their minor children. Upon graduating law school, Shanté had the pleasure of working with the EEOC where she reviewed and processed employment law claims, and Wells Fargo where she was a pertinent member of one of their legal teams, until she landed a position with a family law firm in Charlotte, NC. In 2017, Shanté decided to hang her own shingle and go into private practice, where she concentrated in the areas of family law, juvenile law, estate planning and probate, and other civil matters. It was there where she honed her skills in civil procedure, the rules of evidence, and litigation.
